TSW: Main-Spessart Bahn is Out Now!

Head for the Spessart hills today and take control of challenging services along the scenic Main-Spessart Bahn, which is available now for Train Sim World!

Here’s 10 things to try in Train Sim World: Main-Spessart Bahn

I… Take to the Tracks in the TRAXX

A family of modern motive power adaptable to any use, the TRAXX is a fantastic locomotive platform, and two examples of it feature in Main-Spessart Bahn – the DB BR 146.2 in DB Traffic Red livery and the DB BR 185.2 in DB Railion Red livery. The 146.2 is passenger-orientated, boasting a higher top speed, interior door controls and operable destination boards; meanwhile the 185.2 is designed for freight, trading speed for pulling power and suited for getting freight along this key railway corridor.

II… Double Up the Action

Keep the DB BR 146.2 busy in both directions by stepping aboard the 766.2 DBpbzfa, a DoppelStockwagen control car that can work with locomotives, such as the 146.2, on regional push/pull passenger operations. Sandwiched between the two are standard “DoSto” vehicles that help boost capacity on bustling routes.

III… Destinations Aplenty

Before setting off on passenger journeys, from either the DB BR 146.2 or the control car, you can turn on the FT95 console and select a destination to be displayed. Destination boards let people at stations know where the train is going before boarding, so make sure the right one is displaying, don’t want passengers to get lost!

IV… Fuel the Industry

Put the DB BR 185.2 to good use on a variety of freight duties, including ahead rakes of Zacns tanker wagons that are full to the brim with Jet-A1 kerosene; this fuel is for aviation, keeping commercial airliners flying out of Germany’s largest airports, so the importance of this cargo is not to be ignored, nor is its dangerous nature – keeping your nerve is essential.

V… Keep the Drive Going

Another key industry that is transported along the Main-Spessart Bahn is the railway’s main rival itself, the automotive industry. You’ll be taking dozens of cars through the German countryside aboard Laaers 560 car transporter wagons, ensuring that they get across the challenging gradients without much hassle, any mistakes would be expensive ones.

VI… Bankers to the Rescue

The steepest section of the Main-Spessart Bahn, between Laufach and Heigenbrücken, tackles the hillside at 1:48 (2.1%) which is even too much for a single DB BR 185.2 to handle when hauling the heaviest of freight services. The answer is Banking, where a second locomotive is attached before the start of the climb and assists by pushing the consist up the hill, before being taken off and heading back down ready to push the next service.
In Train Sim World: Main-Spessart Bahn, you can either take charge of the services being pushed, or take on the role of the banker.

VII… Deliver DoppelStock

To keep trains running, they often need maintenance and refurbishment, true is the case for DoSto vehicles used on the Main-Spessart Bahn, and you can take charge of a unique consist which brings newly refreshed coaches back from the workshop, separated by Habbiins 344 barriers.

VIII… Become a Passenger

Find a seat aboard the DoppelStock and let the driving be done for you, giving you the time to sit back and enjoy the stunning locale of the Spessart hills; make sure to keep an eye out for Heigenbrücken station, which today no longer exists in the same form – Train Sim World lets you re-live the Main-Spessart Bahn before its modernisation.

IX… Go for a Walk

There’s something to be said about going out on foot and diving into the detail of Main-Spessart Bahn, paying attention to every nuance and feeling the power of heavy freight trains as they thunder by. While on your travels, keep an eye out for the 100 collectables which require your attention; there’s fallen logs to organise, broken fences to repair, hazard cones to put down and route maps to place.

X… Find a spot, and Spot

Action is always occurring on the Main-Spessart Bahn, pick a location along the route that takes your fancy and watch the daily duties unfold.

And Something More…

If you own Train Sim World: Ruhr Sieg Nord, its DB BR 185.2 in DB Traffic Red livery, and the DB BR 143, can swap interchangeably with trains in Main-Spessart Bahn’s Service Mode, adding to the variety available on both freight and passenger trains. In contrast, the DB BR 185.2 Railion livery from Main-Spessart Bahn will also become available to drive on Ruhr Sieg Nord.
