With Horseshoe Curve Scenario Pack 01, you’ll operate a variety of passenger services, including “all stops” PRR passenger and mail local Train 641. A set of Electro-Motive F7s is on the point as Train 641 emerges from Allegheny Tunnel to make its stop at the Gallitzin depot.
The Pennsylvania Railroad operated mail and express trains and in the scenario “PRR Mail Train 18,” you’ll take the throttle of an eastbound mail train and cross the rugged Alleghenies from Johnstown to Altoona with a venerable Pennsy K4 steam locomotive as power (above). Pennsy rostered 425 of its renowned K4 4-6-2 passenger locomotives, and in the scenario “Pennsy K4 Farewell,” you are the engineer of a 1957 farewell excursion operating a roundtrip from Altoona to the Allegheny summit at Gallitzin and return. Above Horseshoe Curve, PRR K4 1361 meets an eastbound powered by EMD F7s (below).
Pennsy’s crossing of the Alleghenies has always been bustling with tonnage, and Horseshoe Curve Scenario Pack 01 brings that action to vibrant life. In the scenario “Cresson Coal,” it is a spring afternoon and you have been called as engineer of an extra powered by distinctive PRR Baldwin RF-16 “Sharknose” diesels that will pull together coal tonnage at Cresson, then make the descent of the Allegheny west slope (above) toward Johnstown. And, in the scenario “Sharks on the Mountain,” you’ll again climb aboard PRR’s stylish Baldwins (below) for a rainy-day haul of heavy manifest tonnage over the length of the route.
In the scenario “Coal for Bethlehem Steel,” you are called as the engineer of a coal job that will be gathering loads at South Fork, then making the run downgrade to Woodvale Yard in Johnstown with coal destined for the nearby Bethlehem Steel plant. Your power on a snow-dressed day in the Alleghenies is a trio of PRR EMD F7s (above). Baldwin’s leviathan Centipede diesels saw both PRR passenger and freight duties, and in the scenario “Diesels from Eddystone” you’ll call upon the 6,000-horsepower of the big Baldwins to tote hopper empties from Altoona to Cresson (below).
The scenario “Portage Coal East,” assigns you to a trio of PRR EMD GP7s working a wintry coal spur at Portage and Wilmore (above), then making a mainline run. And in the challenging scenario “Woodvale Yard Duty,” you’ll switch with a single Pennsy “Geep” at Johnstown’s Woodvale Yard (below) and then work the nearby Bethlehem Steel plant.
