Climb aboard Norfolk Southern and CSX trains for heavy-tonnage hauling in High Iron Simulations’ new scenario pack!
Heavy, hard, and challenging coal-hauling has been a staple of American railroading for more than a century-and-a-half. And the unforgiving business of hauling coal continues day in and day out on rail arteries such as the ex-Monongahela lines re-created in Train Simulator’s Norfolk Southern Coal District route. And now, you can go to work handling the heavy tonnage trains of eastern U. S. rail giants Norfolk Southern and CSX -- with Coal District Scenario Pack 01!
Train Simulator’s Norfolk Southern Coal District route was historically the Monongahela Railway, and today it is owned by Norfolk Southern with CSX sharing operating rights. From High Iron Simulations, the new Coal District Scenario Pack 01 delivers ten highly realistic career scenarios featuring Norfolk Southern and CSX mainline coal trains, coal loading, local freight operations, and special maintenance-of-way duties.
Based on actual NS and CSX operations and train symbols, the ten challenging career scenarios of Coal District Scenario Pack 01 will place you at the engineer’s controls of modern and efficient Norfolk Southern General Electric ES44ACs and Dash 9-40CWs, CSX’s 5,000-horsepower Electro-Motive SD80MACs, and NS’s memorable high-nose EMD GP38-2s.
In Coal District Scenario Pack 01, you’ll be called for work across the length and breadth of the rugged and scenic coal district route and visit locations on each side of the Monongahela River, including Alicia, Brownsville, West Brownsville, Waynesburg, Emerald Mine, and the remote Manor Branch and sprawling Bailey Mine.
Note: This pack’s scenarios require the Train Simulator Norfolk Southern Coal District route. Select individual scenarios also require the CSX SD80MAC Add-On; Norfolk Southern GP38-2 High Hood Loco Add-On; and/or Norfolk Southern Heritage ES44ACs Loco Add-On. All required Train Simulator content is available at the Steam Store.
The Norfolk Southern Coal District – frequently referred to as NS’s “MGA Mine District,” or simply the historic “Mon,” represents a compelling example of big-time American railroading given its heavy tonnage and joint operations by both of America’s eastern rail giants – Norfolk Southern and CSX. And now, High Iron Simulations’ new Coal District Scenario Pack 01 puts you in the engineer’s seat for challenging and authentic duty on this remarkable and busy Train Simulator route. Now available, Coal District Scenario Pack 01 features 10 realistic career scenarios that put you at the throttle for heavy Norfolk Southern and CSX tonnage hauling on the Train Simulator NS Coal District route! In Coal District Scenario Pack 01’s three-part scenario “NS Train N28,” you’ll be the engineer of Norfolk Southern GE ES44AC 8053 as it leads empties over the rugged Coal District from West Brownsville, Pa., to Bailey Mine on the Manor Branch. NS 8053 and a sister ease past Waynesburg depot (above), then near the end of the journey, duck through the short tunnel at Bailey Mine (below).
Train Simulator’s Norfolk Southern Coal District route was historically the Monongahela Railway, and today it is owned by NS with CSX sharing operating rights, making it a remarkable home for heavy tonnage operations by both of America’s eastern rail giants. On the rugged Manor branch, CSX eastbound coal loads meet Norfolk Southern westbound empties.
Having originated at Bailey Mine, CSX Train 71 rolls past Emerald Mine at Waynesburg, bound for CSX’s yard at Newell, Pa. In the three-part scenario “CSX Train N71,” you climb aboard the 5,000-horsepower CSX EMD SD80MACs to forward the long and heavily loaded coal train over the length of the Train Simulator NS Coal District route.
In the two-part scenario “NS Train N09,” it’s a wintry day and you’ll be at the controls of Norfolk Southern GE Dash 9-40CW 8918 as it makes a journey from Waynesburg to Alicia with coal loads for barge transloading. On the ex-Monongahela Railway mainline, the N09 meets westbound empties (above), then, at Brownsville, crosses the wide Monongahela River and turns south toward Alicia (below).
Even local work on the Coal District involves heavy loads and in Coal District Scenario Pack 01’s career scenario “NS Local C26,” a pair of Norfolk Southern hi-nose EMD GP38-2s deliver steel plates to a barge builder near Alicia (above), then roll along the Monongahela River at Brownsville (below) with cars bound for West Brownsville Yard.
In a fitting locomotive assignment, Norfolk Southern has positioned “heritage locomotive” GE ES44AC honoring the Monongahela Railway on the point of a heavy train of ballast curling along scenic Tenmile Creek and bound for the Waynesburg Southern in the career scenario “NS Extra 8025 West.”
Based on actual Norfolk Southern and CSX rail operations, the ten realistic and challenging career scenarios of Coal District Scenario Pack 01 will put you at the heart of the action as America’s two eastern rail giants haul heavy tonnage in Pennsylvania’s rugged Allegheny region.
