The S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr was established in 1967 in order to bring a new era of commuter rail travel to the urban regions of North Rhine-Westphalia. Prior to this, inadequate steam locomotives dating back to 1912 were in charge, however bringing the various Ruhr, Berg and Rhineland cities into one network meant widespread transformations could take place.

Electric traction would be the mainstay for the new S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr, starting off with locomotives like the BR 141 and multiple units like the BR 420. In more recent years, a new fleet of EMUs took centre stage, including the DB BR 422 which was designed by both Alstom and Bombardier. A total of 84 of these sleek, 4-car units were built, with the first examples entering service in 2008.

Train Sim World: Rhein-Ruhr Osten will bring to life the S8 Line between Hagen Hbf and Wuppertal Steinbeck, which weaves its way through city outskirts and rural landscapes serving 14 intermediate stations en-route.

In addition, the main line between Hagen and Wuppertal is also included for freight traffic between Hagen and Wuppertal yards, as well as the container yard at Wuppertal-Langerfeld. The S-Bahn branches off just south of Hagen and comes back together with the main line again at Schwelm, crossing over and under to form the multi-track stretch into Wuppertal.

One cannot talk about Wuppertal without the “Schwebebahn” being mentioned at one point or another. In light of it recently being re-opened, we’ve adapted our road traffic technology to make sure it is visually operational, adding to the life of the route as you transport passengers and freight alongside this uniquely elevated system.
